April Fools!!

 

One thing that has come to fruition is the Iraq Foundation, funded by

the US Department of State. With this funding, they are working to restore the Mesopotamian marshes in Iraq and Iran, which were targeted in the mid-nineties by Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi government.

 

The campaign desiccated the marshlands, destroyed the environment, burnt villages, and drove hundreds of thousands of the indigenous population into exile.

The graph below depicts how the government actually doles out the funds. Notice the very short bars next to Environmental Protection Agency and the National Science Foundation (among many many others), while the Department of Defense has extraordinarily large bars that seem to just keep getting longer as the years go on.
