Your gifts make our nature programs possible!
Founded in 2005, Nature in the City’s mission is to connect everyone in San Francisco to nature by cultivating and conserving local habitats.
-
Habitat Restoration
We cultivate, conserve, and care for habitats and urban wildlife in San Francisco. We empower people to be stewards and scientists as they enjoy the beautiful and biodiverse natural landscapes around us.
-
Urban Greening
We believe nature is key to healthy urban development, especially in a densely-built city like San Francisco. We add nature to urban infrastructure such as living roofs on downtown transit canopies.
-
Community Engagement
We provide experiences for people who want to volunteer, join a guided walk, or enjoy nature on their own. We believe nature is critical to our wellbeing and that nature's benefits must be shared by all.
-
Garden Services
We help clients create beautiful gardens that are full of life, save water, and stabilize the climate. We attend to your goals and budget while considering wildlife, waste reduction, and organic practices.

Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that we practice on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples who are the rightful inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As original stewards of this land, they understood the interconnectedness of all things and maintained harmony with nature for millennia. Nature in the City shares a commitment with the first peoples to care for the natural world, and we honor their enduring commitment to Mother Earth. We support and partner with the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone, a local organization that represents the interests of the original peoples of the San Francisco Peninsula.
